The Photon Spectrum in Quarkonia Decays
نویسنده
چکیده
Radiative decays of heavy quark bound states have been investigated in the framework of perturbative QCD and have been used to measure the QCD coupling at scales of the order of the heavy quark mass (for recent studies see Refs. [1-3], and references therein). Away from the boundaries of the phase space, the inclusive spectra are expected to be well described by first or second order perturbation theory. Near the phase space boundaries, effects associated with non-perturbative contributions and with high orders in perturbation theory are expected to become important. In this paper I focus on two of these effects. First, I describe the role of the fragmentation of gluons and light quarks into a photon. This is relevant to the shape of the inclusive photon spectrum at small z, where z = 2Eγ/M is the energy fraction carried by the photon, with M being the quarkonium mass. Second, I consider the opposite end of the spectrum, z → 1. I discuss the resummation of soft gluons in this region and its physical implications. Consider the decay of a S1 quarkonium state into a prompt photon plus hadrons: XQQ̄ → γ + hadrons . (1)

Cancellation of Sudakov Logarithms in Radiative Decays of Quarkonia
We study infrared QCD effects in radiative quarkonia decays. We examine the endpoint region z → 1 of the photon spectrum. We point out a cancellation mechanism for the corrections in α s ln (1− z), m ≤ 2n, in the short-distance coefficient for the color-singlet Fock state in the quarkonium. The cancellation is due to the coherence of the color radiation, and applies even though logarithmic cont...
متن کاملHeavy Quarkonia
Recent experimental results on heavy quarkonia spectroscopy and decays are reviewed. In particular, new results are discussed on charmonium spin singlet states, bottomonium D-states, photon and hadronic transitions from heavy quarkonium states, and the unexplained narrow X(3872) state.
متن کاملGlueball-quarkonia content of the f0(1370
Based on a 3×3 mass matrix describing the mixing of the scalar states f0(1370), f0(1500) and f0(1710), the hadronic decays of the three states are investigated. Taking into account the two possible assumptions concerning the mass level order of the bare states |N〉 = |uū + dd̄〉/ √ 2, |S〉 = |ss̄〉 and |G〉 = |gg〉 in the scalar sector, MG > MS > MN and MG > MN > MS , the glueball-quarkonia content of ...
متن کاملKinematic Effects in Radiative Quarkonia Decays
Non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) predicts colour octet contributions to be significant not only in many production processes of heavy quarkonia but also in their radiative decays. We investigate the photon energy distributions in these processes in the endpoint region. There the velocity expansion of NRQCD breaks down which requires a resummation of an infinite class of colour octet operators to so...
متن کاملThe Octet Structure Function and Radiative Quarkonia Decays
The Operator Product Expansion, in conjunction with the power counting of nonrelativistic field theory, is used to examine the end-point region of the radiative decay of heavy quark bound states with S1 quantum numbers, QQ̄ → γ + X. We identify an infinite class of operators that determine the shape of the photonic end-point spectrum. These operators can be resummed to form an octet structure fu...
